Fine-tuning

The process of training a pre-existing AI model on specific data to make it an expert.

What it means

Fine-tuning takes a general-purpose AI model (that knows a little about everything) and gives it additional training on a focused dataset. For example, teaching a generic language model to speak like a lawyer or a medical professional.

Why it matters

It allows businesses to create specialized tools without building a new AI from scratch. This makes AI useful for niche industries where accuracy and specific domain knowledge are critical.
