Deep Learning

A subset of machine learning that uses multi-layered neural networks to learn from vast amounts of data.

What it means

Deep Learning is a specialized form of machine learning inspired by the human brain. While standard machine learning might need a human to label data features (like 'this is a pointy ear'), deep learning uses many layers of 'neural networks' to automatically discover these features from raw data like images or audio.

Why it matters

It is the breakthrough technology behind the current AI boom. It enables self-driving cars to 'see' the road and ChatGPT to understand human language.
