Had a funny one a couple weeks ago I wanted to share.
Guy fills out the form on our site. Says he wants help ranking his local business on Google. Cool, that's literally what we do.
We message back and forth, I send him an analysis of his site, his competitors, what he'd need to do to land in the top 3 in his city.
Then the messages start coming in.
And by messages I mean a full mental breakdown typed out in real time.
"This won't work."
"This isn't possible."
"Google is too hard."
"My industry is too special."
Bro... you contacted us.
Now, this guy isn't a roofer or a plumber. He's a voooooodoooo doctor. Or hippy doctor. Or gong therapist. Some flavor of holistic medicine where you lie on the floor and someone bangs a metal bowl near your head to "release your stress."
A stress relief guy.
Having a stress meltdown over a free analysis.
You can't make this stuff up.
Anyway, I'm not telling you this to make fun of the guy (ok maybe a little). I'm telling you this because he was sitting on something kind of amazing and didn't even realize it.
His whole local market was wide open.
I looked at his competitors. Nobody had their Google profile filled out properly. Nobody had reviews coming in consistently. Nobody had a site that actually said where they were located or what they did. Nobody had citations built. Nobody.
That's the part most local business owners don't get about local SEO.
It's not hard.
It's just that nobody does the simple stuff.
Show up on Google with your full info. Get reviews from real clients. Have a site that loads fast and says where you are and what you do. Get your business listed on the directories that matter for your area. Keep at it for a few months.
That's the whole game.
There's no secret. There's no magic gong you hit to make Google like you.
The reason ranking in the top 3 is actually pretty easy in most local markets is because your competitors are doing none of this. They built a site in 2014, slapped their phone number on it, and called it a day.
So if you actually do the boring work? You win.
Voodoo doc could've been the number one ranked hippy doctor in his entire city in about 90 days, but he decided not to.
Don't be the voodoo doc.
