Parameters

The internal variables or 'settings' learned by the model during training.

What it means

Parameters are the weights (numbers) inside the neural network. You can think of them as the trillions of tiny knobs the model has tweaked to understand the world. When we say a model has '70 Billion parameters', we are talking about its complexity and potential brainpower.

Why it matters

Generally, more parameters mean a smarter, more nuanced model, but also one that is slower and more expensive to run.
