Grounding is the process of forcing the AI to stick to a source of truth. If you upload a PDF and tell the AI 'Answer only using this document,' you are grounding it in that file.
Why it matters
It is the opposite of hallucination. For businesses, grounding is non-negotiable. You want your support bot to answer based on your actual return policy, not what it read on a forum somewhere.
